This seems to be a longstanding issue and Google hasn't seen fit to rectify the situation for going on three years. Comments on older posts are still there but newer ones have disappeared. They must have pushed out some "new and improved" code after a piss poor performance by their QA team. There seems to be a lot of that going around these days.<br /></p>WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5935535959209062599.post-51988499884879935382022-10-02T13:23:00.003-05:002022-10-02T13:48:01.154-05:00WotR progress<p>I'm well on my way through cleaning up two boxes of the plastic <a href="https://www.perry-miniatures.com/product/wr1-plastic-wars-of-the-roses-infantry-bows-and-bills/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Wars of the Roses Infantry</a> figures from the Perry brothers. The obligatory mold lines aren't the worst I've ever seen but they're obviously there, and my OCD just won't allow them to stay!</p><p>While I haven't quite decided on the number of figures to do up for archers, billmen, and command, I have pretty much decided on a retinue thanks to my genealogy obsession and <a href="http://www.citadelsix.co.uk/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Citadel Six Custom Design</a>. I'll keep that decision a mystery until I actually do a little more research and get these models ready to paint.</p><p>I just about have all the bodies cleaned up and plan on doing the heads next so I can get them attached for easier painting. The arms and weapons will also likely be painted separately, at least to a point, to make painting an easier task.</p><p>Now, if I can just stop watching Turnip28 videos and hold off that temptation for a while...<br /></p>WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5935535959209062599.post-89711068381864045022022-10-02T13:02:00.003-05:002022-10-02T13:46:00.505-05:00TRIUMPH! bases<p>I ordered and received my first bases (80mm frontage) for the Triumph! rules. Bases were ordered from two suppliers so I could determine a preference, not only for the material but also for the quality of the cut. The suppliers were as follows:</p><p><a href="https://www.atomiclasercutdesigns.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Atomic Laser Cut Designs</a> (MDF)</p><p><a href="https://litko.net/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Litko</a> (plywood)</p><p>The <a href="https://www.atomiclasercutdesigns.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Atomic Laser Cut Designs</a> bases will be used for my Scots Isles & Highlands army, while the <a href="https://litko.net/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Litko</a> bases will be used for my Viking army. Both sets of bases are 3mm thickness with depths of 30mm/40mm/80mm for the Scots Isles & Highlands army and 30mm/40mm for the Viking army.</p><p>While the MDF bases are a bit cheaper, the plywood ones may be better for allowing me to successfully attempt an idea I have for labeling each base with army and troop type info. If my initial attempt is successful I will post an "How-To" article.<br /></p><p><br /></p>WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5935535959209062599.post-77046907109912948622022-09-05T20:57:00.007-05:002022-10-02T13:52:14.646-05:00Obligatory Three Year Post<p>I'm finally starting to get back into the world of miniatures after a few years down in the dumps. I'm looking into a few different rules with <a href="https://www.wgcwar.com/" target="_blank">Triumph!</a> and the <a href="http://www.dadiepiombo.it/index.html" target="_blank">Impetus</a> variants currently leading the way for rules with a broad historical focus.<br /><br /><a href="https://www.wargamesillustrated.net/never-mind-the-billhooks/" target="_blank">Nevermind the Billhooks</a> and <a href="https://testofresolve.com">Test of Resolve</a> are leading the pack for my eventual delving into the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wars_of_the_Roses" target="_blank">Wars of the Roses</a>.</p><p>80mm width bases have been ordered for my 28mm <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse%E2%80%93Gaels" target="_blank">Norse-Gael</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikings" target="_blank">Viking</a> armies. These will be for use with the <a href="https://www.wgcwar.com/" target="_blank">Triumph!</a> rules. I'll need to order some 120mm bases for the <a href="http://www.dadiepiombo.it/index.html" target="_blank">Impetus</a> rules.</p><p>Hopefully, I'll get back to working on some models soon. I'm close to having a workshop set up and once I've got that to the point where I deem it useful I'll get back to work assembling and painting.<br /></p>WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5935535959209062599.post-85750891899191279912019-03-13T16:19:00.001-05:002019-03-13T16:19:35.329-05:00British Khaki #3 (Vallejo Model Color)Per Mike Starmer<br />

I'm going to attempt to do an "in progress" series on the painting of this group. We'll see if I still have any of the old skills left, especially with <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfGYSHy1jQs" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">my eyes not what they used to be</a>.<br />
<br />
I finally decided on a Norman army for SAGA and the first pack I'm going to tackle is the <a href="http://eoeorbis.com/collections/dark-ages/products/da1042-norman-characters-4?variant=1314872588" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Norman Characters (DA1042)</a> from <a href="http://eoeorbis.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Black Tree Designs</a>. These will be used as a unit of Hearthguard and will be based individually to allow them to be fielded for gaming in other rule systems.<br />
<br />
Here they are in their natural state before the initial removal of flash and mold lines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtbVsDhTjlGXCusr3q0CszVclSMm6DFEiRPAuNGquM-oCQTa-ETqFOssPMdUx4KbGCASzT1aDOoxmmzzxAn6RqpDF9jBBjEVS8EBJRRYRVnJfHS_QIlTEoIlMg70-Yk2wtiEHB9NLUbPil/s1600/1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtbVsDhTjlGXCusr3q0CszVclSMm6DFEiRPAuNGquM-oCQTa-ETqFOssPMdUx4KbGCASzT1aDOoxmmzzxAn6RqpDF9jBBjEVS8EBJRRYRVnJfHS_QIlTEoIlMg70-Yk2wtiEHB9NLUbPil/s320/1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After the initial removal of flash and mold lines. This wasn't too terrible, but I quickly remembered my least favorite part of the hobby.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1CgcrtNUuUyGs6WTWkVcAx4UqOHBHBvYmdbhMwJPFRo1MqWrIMUX9ikcopu9jY6hyQ8f7gDazMU17nuf6LGzF8T4Zse-oxizW-n_Pen8M3TO6tcqLnJm023AsaLbVQyJe6ntF0GSt-lmu/s1600/2.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1CgcrtNUuUyGs6WTWkVcAx4UqOHBHBvYmdbhMwJPFRo1MqWrIMUX9ikcopu9jY6hyQ8f7gDazMU17nuf6LGzF8T4Zse-oxizW-n_Pen8M3TO6tcqLnJm023AsaLbVQyJe6ntF0GSt-lmu/s320/2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Inked with Liquitex Transparent Raw Umber Ink to pick out any missed mold lines. Decided to use the ink instead of primer for this step. For a while I would prime and ink, but with the Liquitex stuff the primer is unnecessary. Why use up primer when you don't need to?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGRbatcAoMi78Z51vJBYyo3MerVzC0coNPp_ThFkA-RqTv0LnVNSyLAk-_g0m04R5MIn-H6T0vEwLlRmaBMQVryALJKl2hPXBIbNp5sHT3bMAUOaYE03p6MbmCJGadyjH9zFmpeDTCtxuJ/s1600/3.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGRbatcAoMi78Z51vJBYyo3MerVzC0coNPp_ThFkA-RqTv0LnVNSyLAk-_g0m04R5MIn-H6T0vEwLlRmaBMQVryALJKl2hPXBIbNp5sHT3bMAUOaYE03p6MbmCJGadyjH9zFmpeDTCtxuJ/s320/3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Mold lines completely removed (or so I thought), ink stain washed off, and ready for primer. The primer (White Stynylrez) was applied with the Patriot 105 airbrush @ 30 PSI from about 6"-8" away.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1N1-oukT-dgR5xWFqLupQaWKVbUNHoPcHaI-lf-r7gXLbU0FieqXcMVo-MDFCUjJQr8eXvzrfbIlhbLelAVY2jJLg5rAQpzT-UZU-3jRMSvSXywbZ-2TZ6hoQ20ASF4OuwK9b60oTlrtp/s1600/4.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1N1-oukT-dgR5xWFqLupQaWKVbUNHoPcHaI-lf-r7gXLbU0FieqXcMVo-MDFCUjJQr8eXvzrfbIlhbLelAVY2jJLg5rAQpzT-UZU-3jRMSvSXywbZ-2TZ6hoQ20ASF4OuwK9b60oTlrtp/s320/4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The first coat of primer went on a little too lightly and had a slight dusty appearance. I've heard the white takes multiple coats to get good coverage, but decided to give it a little help just in case.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbkKeMvdJFeYVUD1S05gjdy7ZeHTQf5oRYcPhY5WdkPOcRiArOf5_69bFKaUiw0_X2crbc7oG9D4fBJ5kn_qtj1LuX40WvNzsEFHBUgzfseUUqVisVV9JAVjzbQPrEYJ5CsWBdu8e_zG4d/s1600/5.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbkKeMvdJFeYVUD1S05gjdy7ZeHTQf5oRYcPhY5WdkPOcRiArOf5_69bFKaUiw0_X2crbc7oG9D4fBJ5kn_qtj1LuX40WvNzsEFHBUgzfseUUqVisVV9JAVjzbQPrEYJ5CsWBdu8e_zG4d/s320/5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Second coat of primer. Added a little Liquitex Airbrush Medium to the Stynylrez. This went on a little wetter and smoothed out the primer. Missed a little bit of mold line on the guy with the spear. See it?<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div>
The next step will be to spray the primarily metallic areas with a black primer. This will be either Vallejo Surface Primer or Stynylrez, again applied with the Badger 105 Patriot.

<br />
New posts coming soon. I've actually started a new project; Norman army for SAGA. The first few figures will be from the Black Tree Designs line. I just couldn't get those awkward Battlestandard sculpts to look right. It could be the flatness of the Vallejo Model Color paints I used on them. They'll get a Simple Green bath and another go to see if I can improve on them.WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5935535959209062599.post-48302392683268633772013-07-16T15:06:00.000-05:002013-07-16T15:06:08.931-05:00Eldar: Lugganath Craftworld IconNice little <a href="http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2009/03/lugganath-craftworld-logo-sheet.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">article and download over at Bell of Lost Souls</a>. You may not have all the colors mentioned. I've been doing this a while and have a lot of OOP (sad face) products.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thin Orkhide Shade Foundation (GW/Cit) with Thraka Green wash (GW/Cit) and then thin further with a very slight amount of H2O.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Brush this on all the raised areas.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now add VMC 886 Green-Grey and another slight increase of H2O to the above mix and add to only the highest raised areas.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Brush on Citadel Yellow Glaze after this final highlight has dried. When this initial glaze has dried, do it again.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you want to give a more greenish hue to the effect, brush on a final coat of Citadel Green Glaze.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Photos of model as soon as I get around to it.</div>

Don't let your paints sit around for an extended period of time. I have quite a few bottles of Vallejo Game Color paints that have gone bad. They have turned gummy, chunky, or somewhere in between. So far it's mostly yellows and oranges that are suffering this fate.<br />
<br />
Maybe it would be a good idea to at least give them a good shake every couple of weeks and keep the binder and pigment thoroughly mixed. It might also be advantageous to on occasion add a few drops of distilled water and/or Vallejo thinner.<br />
<br />
This is probably a good warning for me to not buy a bottle of paint until I actually need it. I really want to put up a site that contains a decent amount of content, one that is worth your time to visit. It never has been and as long as I have owned the domain there's no reason - apart from my own lethargy - it should have been barren for so long.<br />
<br />
It will be back online some day, but not for the foreseeable future due to work and actually getting back into painting in a big way. In the meantime, I'll be posting bits and pieces of info that are/were on the site in this blog. First up will be the Old Citadel Colour sets, which may be posted here at some point this week.WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5935535959209062599.post-66586313856506373912013-03-25T18:05:00.001-05:002020-10-21T14:41:19.727-05:00Still AliveAfter yet another prolonged absence from all things LittleMetalMen.com, I make an appearance!<br />

<h3>
Site News</h3>
<div>
After over two years of inactivity, I have recently begun building a new Content Management System (CMS) for the site. This new CMS, as well as the eventual public facing site, is being built using a MVC framework. This should result in a more user-friendly (not to mention webmaster friendly) experience once the site gets updated and unveiled. I'm not going to put a date on the unveiling at this point, as doing so in the past has had a tendency to bite me in the butt.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I will say that the bulk of the CMS is, for all intents and purposes, is completed. Just a few more things to add, which I hope will result in more content appearing on the site.<br />
<br /></div>
<h3>
Painting News</h3>
<div>
Back in January I completed my first miniature in the better part of four years. Inspiration returned in the form of a model representing my character in a <a href="http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pathfinder RPG</a> campaign. The figure in question is <a href="https://www.reapermini.com/search/burrowell/latest/02959" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Marius Burrowell</a> from <a href="http://www.reapermini.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Reaper Miniatures</a>. Once I dig the camera out I'll post a photo.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Over the past couple of weeks I've begun working on some Norman archers from <a href="http://www.battlestandardminiatures.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Battlestandard Miniatures</a>. These are miniatures I purchased eight years ago at <a href="http://www.historicon.org/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Historicon</a> and am just getting the motivation to work on! Isn't that pathetic?!?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
These Normans will initially see action using the <a href="http://www.grippingbeast.com/shop.php?CatID=2396" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">SAGA</a> rules from <a href="http://www.grippingbeast.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Gripping Beast</a> before eventually being used in <a href="http://scarabminiatures.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Scarab's</a> <a href="http://warandconquest.co.uk/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">War & Conquest</a> game, and possibly other historical rulesets.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once the archers are completed crossbowmen, infantry, and mounted & dismounted knights await. A good number of these are also <a href="http://www.battlestandardminiatures.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Battlestandard</a> sculpts, but I will also be adding some of the <a href="http://www.conquest-games.co.uk/index.php?cPath=22&osCsid=f5c22b7631f32d5e9888804d17315b99" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Conquest Games plastic Normans</a> into the mix.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
That's all for now. Once I relearn how to use my camera I'll post some photos.</div>

I recently attempted to start painting again and discovered that due to age and over exposure to computer screens, my eyesight is not what it used to be. Thankfully, proper magnification fixes that issue. I also recently moved, so I haven't yet been able to setup a decent painting area. With the impending end of a job contract it looks like I may have some time to clear out some work space.</div><div><br /></div><div>As I recently started playing <a href="http://paizo.com/pathfinder">Pathfinder</a>, my next likely project involves some minis for that. Also hoping to get around to watching a session of <a href="http://www.malifaux.com/">Malifaux</a> so I can see how those game mechanics work. I have a few models from each faction, and boy are they pretty!</div><div><br /></div><div>Well, that's all for now. Time to grab some food before I dive back into code.</div>WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5935535959209062599.post-76793573153313580262010-05-04T15:39:00.002-05:002010-05-04T15:44:22.229-05:00Still AliveTrying to work on some new stuff for the web site and to get back into painting, all while trying to clean up the place and start packing for an eventual move. The more packing I do now, the less I have to do when the time comes. Trying to save a good bit of my gaming stuff to be packed last so I won't go insane from boredom around here, but I need to go ahead and pack some of it. D&D 3.5 stuff is already boxed up and those poor rulesets from West Wind Productions will probably go into a box very soon.<br /><br />On the painting front, I'm going to attempt to finish up the 15mm Teutonic Order stuff first and then move on to some unfinished Fantasy stuff. Hoping I can be painting again by sometime next week.WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5935535959209062599.post-51453550603516120772009-06-14T06:47:00.003-05:002009-06-14T06:50:06.668-05:00Privateer Press DVD TeaserThis DVD looks like it may be worth buying. Nothing new to report on the web site or painting front. No motivation.<br /><br />I did finally get in a game of DBA a few weeks back. The Middle Imperial Romans finally made their debut. It was the Battle of the Teutoberger Wald all over again. Not pretty.<br /><br />Might try to get some painting in this weekend if I get the time.WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5935535959209062599.post-73615941638967523042008-11-22T17:56:00.004-06:002008-11-22T17:59:57.585-06:00Making progress!OK, I've spent some time today working on the gallery for LittleMetalMen.com. Functionality seems to be working, more or less, but I'll probably still need to do some tweaking of the CSS once I start getting some decent photos of models. <br /><br />I'm also trying to determine standard dimensions for the photos. That will be entertaining when adding photos of larger models.<br /><br />Anyhoo, the site is that much closer to being back online!WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5935535959209062599.post-33228184281960394762008-11-02T12:46:00.001-06:002008-11-02T12:47:48.588-06:00A method for Goblin flesh I'm finally happy with!Reaper Master Series Olive triad finished off with Citadel's Thraka Green wash!<br /><br />PERFECT!WPRIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16870573579050078820noreply@blogger.com0
